Is One Better Than The Other?

It all depends on you and your budget.  My experience has led me to Hostgator.  I built my first website on a GoDaddy Site Builder.  It was functional, pretty and reliable.  There was limited downtime and of course, the Brand GoDaddy stood tall in the industry.  The service and support were excellent. At no time did I realize I could be headed for a rough patch and then it hit me like a ton of bricks.  I outgrew my site builder.  There was no way to expand or control my files.

 Web Hosting

Web hosting allows you to build your websites and blogs, upload additional pages, add plugins, manage your files in the cPanel and modify your very own website in unlimited ways. Today, most web hosting business offers site building software such as WordPress and compatible plugins that allow users or account holders to purchase space on their servers.  This allows users to build their very own websites without or with the aid of a developer. It empowers the site owner.

Additionally, you have full control of your cPanel. The cPanel enables you to control your website’s files with a graphical interface. Above is the cPanel for HostGator.  It’s easy to use and very functional.  Support at HostGator is excellent and I have only had downtime for limited upgrades, which went unnoticed.

Self-Hosting Site Builder

In my experience with the site builder, it was easy to use. It was easy to get started and get a domain name.  The site builder promoted drag and drop functions, lots of themes, and a 24 hours support.  However, it was not expandable, I could not transfer files to another site or hosting service.  The meant if I wanted to add another service or e-commerce it was not possible. I would have had to change themes and still not have all of the functionality and control. Some Self-Hosting Site Builder site include GoDaddy, Wix and Weebly.  Should you wish to compare pricing have a loot here at Weebly Prices.

The Choice

For me the choice was clear. I chose to purchase hosting at Hostgator. Here are my reasons Powerful Web Hosting, easy and affordable starting at only $3.95 per month.  The offer Cloud Hosting, WordPress Hosting, VPS Hosting, and Dedicated Hosting.  All at affordable prices.  You may ask why Hostgator and I’d respond professional staff, 24/7/365 service and hosting that exceeds your expectations. It was quick to start and the offered the same drag and drop building experience. The new hosting offers the same drag and drop functionality with so much more options with the HostGator Hosting Plans.

For others who were novices and prefer the drag and drop website builders, I commend you for starting the journey of creating your very own websites.  It is a journey of discovery and we are in it together.  Test and explore as much as possible with technology. It is evolving. If you or your business outgrows the first hosting service, by all means, move your site to another hosting plan. This happened to me on a website builder provided by GoDaddy. The site was non-transferable. It required the I started from step one again. Others services are different. This is why I would recommend Weebly as an alternate site builder.   The choice is yours price, file control and transferability matters.  Be sure to asked questions of your service provider.  It will save you time and money.
